UNICAL shut for two weeks after protest- SEE PHOTOS OF PROTEST

Following this morning protest by the students of the University of Calabar, the school has now been shut down for two weeks by the management.
DAILY POST reports that activities in the school were grounded this morning following protest by the students over poor welfare.

The students who stormed the school premises in their thousands carried placards in protest unavailability of water, electricity and increase in school fee and other charges.

The students consequently locked all the entrances to the institution for hours.

But reacting in a statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Moses Abang, the management said the school will remain shut for two weeks, “The management of the University of Calabar has announced a two week mid semester break for all students of the University with effect from today, 12th October, 2015.

“Students are expected to vacate the hostels on or before 6 pm to enable management address the issues raised by the students.

“Normal academic activities would resume in Friday 30th October 2015.

“No students should be found on campus, especially within the hostels are 6pm today, ” the statement read.

The students blocked all entrance to the school, refusing the movement of students both in and out of the school.

They kept chanting the VC’s name. Some students claim since the Vc came into office, he has done nothing.
