I Wasn’t Arrested, I Decided to Honor EFCC’s Summon – Akpabios


Senator Godswill Akpabio who was interrogated for about 5 hours by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday 16th October 2015, has shed light on the events that led to the incident.

“A young lawyer from my state has petitioned the EFCC accusing me of corruption,”  “Before I got involved in an accident in August, the EFCC had summoned me to respond to the allegations”
“Following the accident, I wasn’t well enough to honor the EFCC summon, which I communicated to them”
“Today, since I’m now well, and the Senate did not sit, I decided to honor the summon of the EFCC”
“I wasn’t arrested. I walked in there myself and now I’m back at home. The EFCC operatives were professional. They asked questions, and I answered.”
Senator Godswill Akpabio denied all charges of corruption labelled against him.
“I will return to the EFCC again as necessary,” he said.
“I am a law-abiding citizen, and whenever I’m summoned to answer questions about how I served my people, I will always respond.
“I urge everyone who has served in public office not to be afraid to explain what they did and how they served, For I know I served well.”
Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, CON was born 9 December 1962, He is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was Governor of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria from 29 May 2007 to 29 May 2015.
He is also a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Senate’s Minority Leader.
