50 Contractors in Kano Detained, 40 Die over Kwankwaso's Failure to Settle Debt

 Ex-Governor Kwankwaso
Kano state chairman of indigenous contractors, Alhaji Abduwa Maitangaran, has disclosed that over 50 members of their association are currently in prison due to former Governor Kwankwaso's inability to pay their contract funds.

Speaking with journalists in Kano on Tuesday, he claimed that 40 of their members also died due to frustration they went through for the non-payment of their contract money by the Kwankwaso administration.

He wondered why how the former governor refused to settle the contractors  after sending him over 26 letters and sat with him more than 20 times, but he only made promises that he could not fulfill.
'Former governor make sure that we were all broke before he left us un-attended. For your information many things that were done at the so-called new cities of Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo were outside the Bill of Quantity (BQ)'.

According to him, the former Governor need to be probe for shoddy deals in the execution of many projects in the state during his tenure.
He said: “Instead of him to borrow from banks or other government departments,  Kwankwaso used our money and executed those projects. To the surprise of all, not even 30% of our payments was effected before he left government house.”
He commended the present governor of the state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,  for giving them N200m to be able to settle some of the debts on their shoulders
