Nigeria: Inaugural Hajj Flight Takes Off From Kaduna With 300 Pilgrims

The airlift of 2015 Muslim pilgrims for 2015 hajj rites has commenced in Kaduna State with 300 intending pilgrims for the inaugural flight.

Speaking during the flag-off of the airlift at the Kaduna International Airport, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by Governor Nasir el-Rufai, said the federal government is committed to reducing the cost of Hajj operations and involvement of government in the exercise.
Mr. Buhari said consistent with the government's decision that Hajj operations should not be funded by the federal government, the expenses of the central coordinating team will be defrayed by the pilgrims' service charge to NAHCON.
"Our country is going through very challenging times and we will need all the prayers we can have from you.
"I agree with the views of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs that Hajj if properly organized should add value to the Nigerian economy rather than take from it.
"Accordingly, I approved the constitution of a very thorough and effective central coordinating team of Muslim leaders to oversee the Hajj operation this year," he said.
While congratulating Kaduna State for being selected for the inaugural airlift, he said this year's Hajj exercise will be the best in the history of Nigeria.
